| Abstract |
A conceptual framework is presented for use by school nurses in structuring their practice. In an illustrated conceptual framework model for school nursing, five elements are included: public health, adaptation, helping relationships, tools, and systematic processes. Each of these elements is discussed in detail, and the applicability of concepts embodied in them to school nursing practice is discussed. The role of the school nurse as a health team coordinator for a school-based immunization program is outlined with respect to planning, implementation, and followup activities. It is felt that the conceptual framework provides a comprehensive basis for the practice of school nursing and facilitates leadership, commitment, and development of a broadly based child care practice. Systematic processes directly applicable to the practice of nursing include the nursing process, the research process, the health education process, the epidemiological process, the administrative/management process, the planned change process, the legislative process, and the contract setting process. |
