Abstract	Symetrica is a small company based in Southampton, England, that has developed an algorithm for processing gamma ray spectra obtained from a variety of scintillation detectors. Their analysis method applied to NaI(Tl), BGO, and LaBr spectra results in deconvoluted spectra with the resolution improved by about a factor of three to four. This method has also been applied by Symetrica to plastic scintillator with the result that full energy peaks are produced. If this method is valid and operationally viable, it could lead to a significantly improved plastic scintillator based radiation portal monitor system.
