National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract a Al(sub 2)O(sub 3) overlay has been deposited on the YSZ surface by the composite-sol-gel route (CSG). Hot corrosion tests were carried out on the TBCs with and without Al(sub 2)O(sub 3) coating in molten salt mixtures (Na(sub 2)SO(sub 4) + (sub 5)%V(sub 2)O(sub 5)). The results showed that besides a thin and dense alumina overlay with the thickness of about 100-500 nm formed on the YSZ surface, the microcracks and porous near the surface in YSZ was also occupied by alumina because of penetration of the low viscosity precursor.
