National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract Researchers at the Savannah River Technology Center (SRTC) successfully demonstrated the chemistry of the Caustic-Side Solvent Extraction (CSSX) flow sheet for the decontamination of high level waste using an optimized solvent in a 33-stage, 2-cm centrifugal contactor apparatus. This represents the second CSSX process demonstration using Savannah River Site (SRS) high level waste (HLW). Three tests were performed using radioactively 'spiked' simulated Tank 37H/44F composite waste, and a 24-hour demonstration was performed using actual Tank 37H/44F composite HLW supernate.
