Abstract This document presents an overview of the vadose zone characterization of Hanford site tank farms. It also presents the legacy of 50 years of nuclear defense production. The issues discussed are: surface; reverse well; single shell tanks; fuel, waste, and plutonium processing; liquids to ground ponds, cribs, trenches and French drains; and solids to ground pits, burial trenches, and landfills.
