Abstract This Kahnan-Darwin formulation is applied to the problem of maintaining an optimal network configuration of links between moving nodes, with time-dependent, stochastic blockages. The nodes, for example, could be environmental sensors with radio transmitter/relays located on vehicles, and the network is configured to provide communication paths from each sensor back to a central node with minimum message loss. As the sensors move, the optimal network changes, but information contained within the GA population of solutions allows new optima to be efllciently obtained. The performance of this approach is explored and results are presented.
