National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract Rotational constants for the ground state of methyl sulfone and for the ground and first excited torsional state of methane sulfonyl fluoride have been derived from microwave spectra observed in 18000-37000 MHz region. Molecular dipole moments were measures. Relative intensity measurements were used to determine the barrier to methyl rotation in CH3SO2F. Alternative structures for (CH3)2SO2, based on assumption of either the SO or the SC bond length from a recent electron diffraction study, are presented. Both reveal a significant discrepancy between the microwave and diffraction values for the OSO angle.
