Abstract The report utilized all available sources of pan evaporation data in Pennsylvania to provide an updated and more detailed analysis than was possible with national maps. The report deals specifically with Class A pan evaporation and its relationship to evaporation from lakes and other water bodies. It was found that mean annual pan evaporation ranges from about 48 inches in the lower Susquehanna River region to slightly less than 32 inches in the north-central section of the State. Mean annual lake evaporation following the same general pattern, varies from about 36 to less than 24 inches. Mean monthly and seasonal values, 90% probability limits, and observed extremes were summarized for six stations with long-term records. Highest mean monthly pan evaporation occurs in July, ranging from about 5.5 to 7.5 inches. Daily extremes in evaporation losses from pans are estimated to range between zero and 0.6 inch.
