National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract The enthalpy of reaction of ketene gas with aqueous sodium hydroxide was measured in an adiabatic solution calorimeter. For the reaction CH2CO(g) + NaOH(aq,500H2O) = CH3CO2Na(aq,NaOH soln), the heat of formation was found. This value was combined with published values for the enthalpy of formation of aqueous sodium hydroxide and of aqueous sodium acetate to calculate the enthalpy of formation of ketene gas. (Author)
