| Abstract |
Octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7 tetrazocine(HMX) (CAS-2691-41-0) is an explosive and is found in the water effluent from the manufacturing processes for RDX and HMX. As part of the biological safety evaluation of the material, a series of toxicity and related studies was carried out in laboratory animals. The work comprised acute toxicology(rodent and rabbit LD50, skin and eye irritation, dermal toxicity and guinea pig sensitisation), 13 week dietary feeding studies in rates and mice(together with 14 day dose range finding studies), analysis of diets, analysis of bolld levels in the 13 week rodent studies and toxicokinetic investigations in rates and mice. Results of the investigation are summarized. |
