Abstract Lake Rene Dam consists of an earth embankment approximately 900 feet long with a maximum height of 82 feet from the downstream toe and a crest width of 60 feet. Lake Rene Dam is one of three dams which impound Lake Rene. The other two dams are Wolf Creek Dam, located at the west end of the reservoir, and Galion Bay Dam, located on the south side of the reservoir. Lake Rene Dam, which was constructed in 1955, was the original dam at the site. The original dam impounded a reservoir with a surface area of approximately 240 acres at normal pool elevation (Elevation 1658). The Wolf Creek and Galion Bay dams were constructed in 1971, increasing the surface area of the reservoir to approximately 310 acres at normal pool level of Elevation 1662.5. Based on the evaluation of the existing conditions, the condition of Lake Rene Dam is assessed to be unsafe due to numerous seeps and slumps on the downstream face of the dam and due to lack of operable outlet works for the reservoir. However, it is not an emergency condition.
