| Abstract |
The M256 chemical agent detector kit is man-portable and will detect and classify hazardous concentrations of blood, nerve, and blister agents in vapor and liquid form. Many problems involving lack of sensitivity and false positive responses were encountered and eliminated or minimized during the development program. Major emphasis was placed on making the kit as simple and foolproof as possible. This especially affected the sampler-detector configuration, lewisite tablet, test spot sizes and shapes, and operating instructions. Investigations were made to determine: the best way to contain liquid reagents in the sampler-detector, a satisfactory and economical plastic, the optimum manufacturing methods to use, and the best materials for the agent vapor test spots. |
