Abstract A study program was conducted for the U.S. Army AMRDL to define ice protection requirements for advanced rotary-wing aircraft. The study included investigations into the hazards of flying through ice, probability of icing, vehicle ice accretion rates, current ice protection system designs, operational limitations of current helicopters, and advanced deicing concepts.
