National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract The equation of energy balance for the high pressure electrodeless arc in air is numerically integrated and agreement with the Thomason Eddy Current theory is found. Scaling laws are derived for purposes of engineering analysis and design. Conceptual designs for high pressure electrodeless and DC arc heaters are compared at the fifty megawatt level in a flowing plasma system. The electrodeless technique is found to be somewhat more efficient than the DC technique in this comparison. (Author)
