National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract Heats of formation at 78K, 195K and 273K of the compound AgMg containing 50.1 at. pct Mg were measured by metal solution calorimetry. The relative partial gram-atomic enthalpy of silver in liquid tin-rich solutions at infinite dilution was also measured. The temperature coefficient of the heat of formation is negative and appreciable near 78K, but with increasing temperature it decreases gradually to a small value near room temperature. This is consistent with the reported high-temperature heat contents of AgMg, Ag and Mg. It is suggested that such behavior of the temperature dependence of the heat of formation can be explained on the basis of the contributions from lattice heat capacities. (Author)
