National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract The report discusses the machine errors of transducer systems used for the measurement of dynamic input and response data during sonic fatigue testing. The specific types of transducers covered are accelerometers, microphones, and strain gages. The basic operating principles, intrinsic inaccuracies, environmentally related inaccuracies, and usage inaccuracies are described. These inaccuracies are broken down into errors occurring in the transducer, cabling, and signal conditioner, as well as those due to system operation. In addition, methods for minimizing these errors are given. (Author)
