National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract All available test data on the standard hypersonic ballistic correlation models, HB-1 and HB-2, were examined to establish reference characteristics for use in the correlation of experimental results among the various aerodynamic facilities. The data presented are comprised primarily of static stability and zero-lift forebody axial-force coefficient results at Mach numbers from about 1.5 to 20 for a Reynolds number range from 0.01 to 2700000 based on centerbody diameter. Selected pressure distribution, dynamic stability, and heat-transfer data are included. Comparisons of data from various test facilities show excellent correlation in spite of the appreciable Reynolds number dependence of test results for model HB-2 with natural boundary-layer transition.
