National Technical Reports Library - NTRL

National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract In order to calculate the radiation from plasmas placed in waveguides it is necessary to know the field produced by arbitrarily moving charged particles in a waveguide. Modal expansions for the vector and scalar potentials due to arbitrarily moving charged particles in a waveguide are derived and provide the generalization of the Lienard- Wiechart potentials to a waveguide environment. In addition, for a plasma filled waveguide a modal expansion of the electric field directly in terms of mode coupling with the charge motion is given. Expressions for the spectral distribution of the radiation are also obtained, both in general and for clyclotron radiation. Some specific results for the H sub 10 mode excited in a rectangular guide by cyclotron motion are also presented. (Author)
