Abstract This document provides guidance for the DoD (Department of Defense) Test and Evaluation (T and E) Range community on best practices for how to implement and perform compression and streaming on range digital motion imagery. This includes all types of motion imagery applications at the ranges from low-latency situational awareness monitoring to compression of high-speed, high-resolution, high-bit depth, and infrared imagery for processing, customer delivery, and archival purposes. These practices are based on a Motion Imagery Standards Profile (MISP) compliant architecture, which has been defined and approved by the DoD Motion Imagery Standards Board (MISB). While the MISB focuses on warfighter motion imagery requirements, there are several reasons, justifications, and advantages for the T and E ranges to adopt this architecture. Interoperability between tactical and range systems and formats, leveraging of technology developments, availability of software tools and libraries, commonality of metadata formats, and the ability of programs to readily ingest range test data for analysis purposes are to name but a few. This MISP is a living document that is frequently updated by the MISB. The MISB website is www.gwg.nga.mil/misb. Motion imagery system implementers are encouraged to monitor changes to the MISP and to leverage new formats, profiles, and technologies as they are adopted.
